'The prayer is better than sleep, the prayer is better than sleep.' « اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ ، اَللهُ أَكْبَرُ » Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar. ‘Allah is the Most Great, Allah is the Most Great.' «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ» Laa ilaaha illaallaah. In the three or four-Rak'ah prayers (Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha) the whole procedure is repeated in the remaining Rak'ah (s), except after Tashahhud, you say 'Allahu Akbar' and stand up and only recite Surat Al-Fatiha in Fard prayers and no other Surah, then continue doing the rest of the actions as you have done before (Rukoo', rising, Sujood).
Saying 'Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah' whenrising from bowing is one of the obligatory parts of prayer according to thecorrect opinion. For more details, please see the answer to questions no.65847 and 90094.
Secondly:
Once this is understood, if a person omitsone of the obligatory parts of the prayer – which includes saying 'Sami‘aAllahu liman hamidah' – his prayer is not rendered invalid unless he didthat deliberately. If he omitted it because he forgot or was ignorant of theruling, then his prayer, and the prayer of those who prayed behind him, isvalid. But he has to do the prostration of forgetfulness (sujood as-sahw)when he remembers it or learns of the ruling, if not much time has passed. If a long time has passed, he does not have to do it, because the time forit has gone.
- Well, to start with, the phrase is technically 'allahu akbar', not 'allah hu akbar'. The definition of the phrase is 'God is Great' or 'God is greatest'. It's an Islamic prayer, and is generally notorious for being the last thing a terrorist screams before he/she does, you know, what a terrorist does.
- Allah is greater (Allahu akbar); intoned twice. There is no God but Allah (La ilah ill Allah); intoned once. Gavin Ashenden, former Chaplain to the British Queen, who resigned his position in protest against a Qur'an reading in a Scottish church, observed that 'the Muslim call to prayer.
- It is not permissible for him to do that deliberately; rather what the worshipper must do is pray as the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) did. So he should say 'Allahu akbar' when appropriate and 'Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah' when appropriate, and 'Rabbana wa laka al-hamd (Our Lord to You be praise)' when.
It says in Daqaa'iq Ooli an-Nuha(1/219): Whoever omits an obligatory part (of the prayer) because he isignorant of the ruling, in the sense that it never crossed his mind that ascholar would say it was obligatory, is like the one who forgot or made amistake. So he should do the prostration of forgetfulness if he learns ofthat before the time ends, otherwise there is no need, and his prayer isstill valid. End quote.
Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez (may Allah havemercy on him) was asked:
What should the imam or person who prayedbehind him do if he says 'Allahu akbar' instead of 'Sami‘a Allahu limanhamidah' or vice versa?

End quote from Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa(29/286)
Thirdly:
There is no blame on you for having saidboth 'Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah' and 'Rabbana wa laka al-hamd.' TheShaafa‘is stated that it is mustahabb, i.e., it is mustahabb for the one whois praying behind an imam to say both 'Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah' and'Rabbana wa laka al-hamd,' although the more correct scholarly view is thatthe one who is praying behind an imam should say only 'Rabbana wa laka al-hamd.'We have discussed the difference of scholarly opinion previously, in theanswer to question no. 43574
To sum up: The prayer of your imam isvalid, because he did not deliberately omit to say 'Sami‘a Allahu limanhamidah' and 'Rabbana wa laka al-hamd.' Rather he omitted it because of hisignorance. May Allah reward you with good for alerting him to that.
And Allah knows best.
Conducting Wahshat Prayer
It is Mustahab / Recommended that on the first night after the burial of the deceased, between Maghrib and Isha one should recite two rakats prayer. This is known as Namaz-e-Wahshat because for the dead person the most horrifying and difficult is the first night.
However, If unable to recite on the first night, then may be recited on the second or even third night after burial.
The prayer is conducted like any other 2 Rakat prayer (Morning prayer), as follows:
1) Perform Niyyat, and recite Takbirat-ul-Ehram
2) Recite Surah al-Fatiha, followed by Ayat-ul-Kursi (Quran 2:255)
3) Perform Ruku and Sajdah as any other prayer
4) Recite Surah al-Fatiha, followed by Surah Qadr 10 Times
5) Perform Qunoot and conclude the prayer with Tashahud and Salaam
6) Then recite
O' Allah! Bless Muhammad and his progeny, and assign the reward to the grave of (mention the name of the deceased).
Merits of Wahshat Prayer
It is narrated from Imam Sadiq (AS) that whenever there is narrowness and severity on the dead body the Almighty widens his grave and removes the narrowness and says that this widening is because you had recited Namaz-e-Wahshat for the believing brother and sister.
